چکیده

In this work a thorough analysis of the vertical distribution natural and artificial radionuclides trace elements in sediment core sample was conducted. A 39 cm length grabbed from deep-sea trench (1540 m depth) southern Samothrace Island, Aegean Sea. The then treated at Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, separated 1cm increment samples, ranging 0cm to cm, dried, milled. first samples also conducted HCMR using gamma spectroscopic techniques. Further continued Nuclear Engineering Department National Technical University Athens (NED-NTUA) an Extended Range Germanium Detector. following were determined 210Pb, 234Th, 226Ra, 228Ra, 228Th, 137Cs 40K. Additionally, Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis used major identified quantified: Al, V, La, Sc, Mn, As, Ga, Cr, Zn, Co, Rb, Fe, K, Na Ce. Based on each sample, most showed no significant variation. anthropogenic very low almost constant. Unsupported 210Pb activity about six times higher than indicating high radon fluxes. Furthermore, neutron activation results indicate that all are within expected range based literature, while K show slightly increased concentration. For area, these findings steady calm sedimentation processes.

A nested circulation model for the North Aegean Sea

A multi-nested approach has been employed for numerical simulations in the northern part of the Aegean Sea in the framework of the MFSTEP (Mediterranean Forecast System: Toward Environmental Predictions) project. The high resolution (∼1.6 km) hydrodynamic model of the North Aegean Sea (NAS) has been nested within a coarser model of the Eastern Mediterranean (resolution ∼3.6 km) which is also ne...

High resolution simulations on the North Aegean Sea seasonal circulation

The seasonal characteristics of the circulation in the North Aegean Sea are examined with the aid of a climatological type simulation (three-year run with perpetual year forcing) on a fine resolution grid (2.5 km by 2.5 km). The model is based on the Princeton Ocean Model with a parameterisation of plume dynamics that is employed for the input of waters with hydrographic properties that are dif...

Depth Profile of Polychlorinated Biphenyls in Sediment Core from Thane Creek Area of Mumbai, India

In recent years there has been a growing concern all over the globe, about marine pollution due to persistent organic pollutants. Sediments, which are an important component of marine environment can serve as sorbents or concentrators for various persistent organic pollutants, including Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs). In this study, the depth profile of accumulated PCBs in Thane Creek sedimen...

Metazoan parasite species in cultured mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis in the Thermaikos Gulf (North Aegean Sea, Greece).

This is the first study on parasites of cultured Mytilus galloprovincialis L. in Greek waters, and is based on samples collected every 2 to 3 mo between September 2000 and November 2001 at 3 stations in the Thermaikos Gulf. Each sample comprised 40 mussels. We found 4 metazoan parasite species: hydroid Eugymnanthea inquilina, gill turbellarian Urastoma cyprinae, trematode Proctoces maculatus an...
